A question by Krystle Johnson

Krystle Johnson asked3wThyroid Disorders (Hypothyroidism/Hyperthyroidism)

Can hypothyroidism be reversed, or only managed?

Asked constantly, and the honest answer has a boundary in it.

Guru AnandThe answer

Let me put the boundary first, because it matters more than everything after it. Your medication, your dose and your blood tests belong with your doctor. Nothing written here replaces that, and changing a dose on the strength of a wellness article is how people come to harm. Take what follows to your physician, not instead of them.

Inside that boundary there is a great deal you may do. The thyroid is a small gland with an enormous task - metabolism, energy, even mood - and it can be supported rather than overruled.

  • Selenium: a brazil nut or two a day, sunflower seeds, salmon.
  • Zinc: pumpkin seeds, legumes, whole grains.
  • Iodine: enough, and not more than enough.
  • Omega-3: walnuts, flaxseed, chia, oily fish.
  • Goitrogens such as broccoli and kale: cook them, and they become friends rather than obstacles.

Then movement, which is a hormonal act and not only a physical one.

Feed it right and it will thank you. Reversing Hypothyroidism Naturally has the whole plan.
