The distance expected for your age, height and weight using the Enright reference equations — and how the test is properly done.
How this is worked out. The predicted distance uses the Enright and
Sherrill reference equations, published in 1998 from healthy adults aged 40 to 80, which
remain the most widely used.
How the test is actually done. A flat corridor of 30 metres, marked at each end. Walk as far as you can in six minutes at your own pace — walking, not running — and you may slow or stop and rest, with the clock still running. It is a standard clinical measure of functional capacity, used in heart and lung care.
Do not do this alone if you have unstable angina, had a heart attack in the last month, or a resting heart rate over 120. In a clinic this test is supervised for a reason.
